Aug 19, 1782 Hand Written CT Colonial Note Capt Clapp Raymond

Handwritten Pay Table Office notes from Connecticut are rare but this one is especially rare due to the very clear watermark with a very appealing animal mythical motif. The mark is a variation of the Pro Patria watermark of the United Dutch Republics the bottom half of a heraldic lion standing upright, holding arrows, with a Maid of Dort in an encircled fence. Made out to Capt Clapp Raymond who is know for being a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives for Norwalk 1778, 1779, and 1783 and a Member of the Wilton Militia during the revolutionary war.  Made payable in the amount of 10 Shilling 7 Pence. Signed by John Lawrence, Eliza Wales and Oliver Wolcott,
